Morning sunlight

I love the morning sunlight during Springtime in my studio.
After Hobby-X I took most of the flowers home and put them on my studio table.
The next morning... (still very tired) this image greeted me.
I sat there for a few minutes and just took in all the colours.
It is very therapeutic.

The two flower broaches that Lucinda and Elizma wore at
Hobby-X were so popular.
So I have been making broaches in all shapes and sizes.

Daffodils for Women's day.

Thank you to Heleen ten Napel and her team for hosting this event.
We all had great fun and all your Daffodils are so pretty!

Now all of you have a long lasting prettiness that doesn't need any watering.
Thanks again for all the friendly faces and smiles.

Birthday Peonies

This bouquet took me longer than I anticipated.
Maybe it is because I am still learning.
At first I had the leaves single, but then realized they were to flimsy,
so I made them double. Then I wanted to add the buds....

In the end I was happy...
and my friend liked her gift.
Now for the next project, maybe some colourful Poppies.

Tulips for winter

So many of my friends have birthdays in July, I think there is 12 of them!
So I started these tulips over the weekend and finished them today.
One down and about 6 to go...

My fingers are a bit dry and cracked, but I had lots of fun.

I always learn something new with every project.
and I can see my improvement.

I found these small metal containers
at our local craft shop.
They are perfect for the job.

Renunculus and Anemone

For now I have packed away the paints and brushes
but I kept the crepe paper and the scissors. Working on tutorials
for the crepe paper flowers takes time but it is rewarding.
When you create a new flower, even from a template, flower number three
is the better one. So I say that you don't need to worry if the first two are not perfect,
you learn by making and creating.
Keep record of what you learn.

We had a cold spell recently and I needed to make something
that reminded me of Spring. So I made some bulbs.

This small bouquet that fits into a teacup was a gift for my mother.

Crepe Paper Magnolias

For these two Magnolia's I used two different templates.
It doesn't really matter, because they still look like Magnolias.

An extra bud and some leaves also make
them look more natural.

Then I had to ask a friend how to photograph the white
flowers. It is quite tricky, because the light keeps bouncing off
the white paper and surroundings. But a side light did the trick.

I am doing a faerie flower hat for the next issue of Creative Hobbies Magazine.
Every little girls dream for a flower princess party.

An Art Journal from scratch

The concept of art journaling can get lost during a session where
you want to teach a lot of techniques.
I hope that this wasn't the case during this session.

I started off by explaining how to set up your working station with
the baby wipes and the paper towels, the bakers paper and the craft sheet to mix your paint.
This way it is much easier to work.
After putting down the gesso on the pages, I showed the girls a technique and then
they had a chance experiment and try it on their own.

We did two more techniques and then it was time for the front cover.
Take time to arrange the petals and it will look stunning.
Remember to doodle and make random marks on your petals.

All the doodling and mark making must still be done on these pages.
Then if you want to, you can also journal, or write down a quote.
Journal around the petals, down the stem of the plant.
Any where you feel like.
If you know a few techniques, try them until they work for you.
and remember it is about the process.

Art Journaling Workshop...

for your soul.

This could be the cover of your Journal.
I completed mine and I love the colours!
I say could be, your colours could be different.
the shape of the leaves could be different.

The theme of my Journal is GROW.
Something that happens when you live life.

(at the moment my body is going East and West.
Nothing is going North, the rest is going South!)

Here is what you will do to create the Journal:

learn new techniques for your pages
add extra space to the journal
create a canvas cover
stitch and bind the journal
create pages with me and then apply the technique on your own
write or doodle on the page

The Workshop is 30 April 2016

Flower lights for my studio

So much fun.
After my Lilly was dressed up in a crepe paper outfit for Hobby-x,
it inspired me to refit my studio lights with LED bulbs and
turn them into flowers!

Lilly looked stunning and was a showstopper at Luna artistry's
stand. She is not back yet but you can have a look at photos of her:
The Photos are also in her Instagram.

So when it is a grey rainy day outside, the studio looks colourful and happy.

This is a peonies I made. I still can't believe
how stunning the paper is to work with.

If you don't know who Lilly is, here she is
with an apron we made and decorated,

and here she is with a beautiful neckpiece Lizette has made for an
article in the Creative Hobbies.

These are three different crafts and you will be learning new techniques during each workshop.

The event starts on Saturday morning at 09:00 and ends
Sunday at 13:00

On the Food menu:
Coffee, tea, muffins and rusks.
Cupcakes, juice, lunch, snacks, and a sun downer.

On the Craft menu:
Creating a crepe paper wreath.

Constructing a ten page art journal with front and back cover.

Lucinda from Luna Artistry will be hosting the three hour crepe paper wreath workshop. You will receive all the materials to complete the project.

I will host the next workshop, the funky painted tote or the painted paintbrush roll. Here you have a choice between the two, the same materials and techniques will be used for both. The tote will hold all your craft supplies for a workshop and the paintbrush roll will hold all your
pens and brushes for an art journal workshop.

The last workshop for the weekend will be all about how to construct your own art journal. Creating backgrounds, layering your pages and creating a cover for the journal. You will also be writing, stamping and stenciling in your journal! It is a lot, but we cover all the basics.

For this workshop I need you to bring a few supplies:
Kitchen paper towel
Baby wipes
Small water spray bottle
Old credit or gift card
Stabilo All black pencil

Butterflies for my mom

My mom is turning 90 on Wednesday and the family
had lunch together yesterday to celebrate her birthday.

I decorated the tables, made a salad and supplied the champagne.
My older sister made a cake
and the younger sister brought a huge amount of food.
( She is the one with the kids and the grand kids )

Each plate was decorated with colorful serviettes and
paper butterflies.

For Oumie as we call her, things
can be overwhelming at times.
She is hard of hearing and has Alzheimer's.
Oumie had a busy life. But she is still going strong.

When it was time for dessert, Oumie and Marocé
worked well together to decorate her cake.

Then it was time to cuddle the latest member of the family
The cutest little boy, now 4 month old.

Happy birthday Oumie,
may you have a year filled with Love.

Sharpie Pen Roll

These products go together like cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice...
( I am thinking pancakes...)

Canvas
Liquid paint
Sharpie pens

A very long time ago I bought a huge roll of raw canvas.
It has been turned into
aprons, messenger bags, pencil cases,
shopping totes, and now pen or paint brush rolls.

I did this project for the Creative Hobbies Magazine, Issue 15.
The step by step tutorial tells you in detail what to do.

The pigments in the Dala Sun Paints are amazing.
Look at the colours!
So paint and play with your designs on the canvas.

Just remember that wet paint mix.

Stencil and write on the design. Use your
Sharpie Fabric markers to highlight or accentuate certain areas.

Use your black and white for the high lights and the low lights.

Fill up your pen roll!
And start making the next one...
