The Grey Ladder Studio will be hosting a Weekend Event consisting of three Workshops.

Crepe paper wreath
Funky painted canvas tote
 Constructing an Art journal

These are three different crafts and you will be learning new techniques during each workshop.

The event starts on Saturday morning at 09:00 and ends
Sunday at 13:00

On the Food menu:
Coffee, tea, muffins and rusks.
Cupcakes, juice, lunch, snacks, and a sun downer.
Farewell cake and tea.

On the Craft menu:
Creating a crepe paper wreath.
Painting a blank canvas tote or a paintbrush roll.
Constructing a ten page art journal with front and back cover.

Lucinda from Luna Artistry will be hosting the three hour crepe paper wreath workshop. You will receive all the materials to complete the project.

I will host the next workshop, the funky painted tote or the painted paintbrush roll. Here you have a choice between the two, the same materials and techniques will be used for both. The tote will hold all your craft supplies for a workshop and the paintbrush roll will hold all your
pens and brushes for an art journal workshop.

The last workshop for the weekend will be all about how to construct your own art journal. Creating backgrounds, layering your pages and creating a cover for the journal. You will also be writing, stamping and stenciling in your journal! It is a lot, but we cover all the basics.

For this workshop I need you to bring a few supplies:
Kitchen paper towel
Baby wipes
Small water spray bottle
Old credit or gift card
Stabilo All black pencil
Permanent pen black and white
Water paint brush

The cost for this weekend event is R1740.00

Paint, stencil and scribble.

I am having fun with a few new techniques and these are the results.

As always, first a layer of gesso. Let it dry.

Then I used my water mister to wet the paper.

The next step is to put paint directly onto the paper and then spread

the paint. Big strokes and don't overwork the paint.

If the paint is too dry, spray some more water to let it flow.

When the paint is dry, do some stenciling and stamping.

For the next page I took a different approach.

I first painted the background and then did some stamping and stenciling.

Because I painted over the pink and orange the colours changed a bit.

For the black grunginess I used my Stabilo All pencil.

On these two pages I more or less followed the same 

order. Gesso, news paper print tissue paper, painted circles, stenciling,

low lights, high lights, stamping and doodling.

Last of all the white circles with my bottle cap.

Here I did not do the white paint bottle cap thing, 

but I did the black paint splattering thing.

I like all of these pages, because I enjoyed myself

experimenting with the different techniques!

It takes a village to raise a child

That is what I believe, but I don't have any children of my own.

I was a teacher for almost 20 years and I know the village sees your children behave or

misbehave and the village can praise or reprimand them when you are not around.

  

 This is the next class for the 27th of August. We will be creating a village.

on a canvas using wood, metal, paint and glue.

The Dummy Fairy

 I got a call from my niece this morning.

Her little three year old decided it was time 

for the fairies to come and collect her dummy and... 

could I please make a Fairy ?!

I had to make her in a few hours.

Drying time included.

 Pinterest  came to my rescue!

I started off with bendable wire and some paper napkins.

I peeled off the back of the napkins and tore it in to strips.

I then used gel medium and a paint brush to 

'mummify' the wire shape. 

You really put the strips on like bandages.

Now I have skipped a few steps, but this is the final

product, with a little crown, two layers of 

petticoats and a top layer of the original paper napkin.

For the story to hold water with a three year old....

the baby fairies now needs the dummy and 

that's why it will never come back.
